Sydney-based security distributor, Unixpac, has picked up local rights to US identity management vendor, Imprivata.
The vendor was best known for its OneSign appliance which sought to undercut and simplify more expensive user authentication and access management offerings in the marketplace, Unixpac managing director, Tom Piotrowski, said.
"Larger businesses have been embracing the likes of IBM, Tivoli, Citrix and others," he said. "There are probably half a dozen players trying to do a more simplified version and so far haven't found anyone but Imprivata that can provide a coherent product."
The OneSign appliance enables a number of functions on a network, such as replacing Windows passwords with stronger authentication options and providing a single sign-on for network-wide password management. Piotrowski said Unixpac had been contacted by Imprivata based on its longevity and name in the business.
The signing also represented the vendor's first foray into the local market. Piotrowski said it would seek to work with partners to put together some trials in the months ahead to show the hardware at work.
"When we talk about an appliance like this, people would like to trial it because they want to be sure it will work with their network," he said. "If you don't test something like this, the results could be disastrous."
