Ingram Micro is planning to raise its profile at the top end of the market with the launch of its Solutions Division. Headed by commercial and solutions director, John Walters, the initiative will see the broad-based distributor looking to compete more effectively with established value-added players like Avnet, Express Data and LAN Systems.
"We see the solutions space as an area of high opportunity for our resellers and it is certainly something vendors have been talking to us about," Ingram managing director, Guy Freeland, said.
"The division will combine platforms such as servers, storage, networking and security with ancillary devices like power supplies. These will be bundled with the necessary software to create total solutions.
"We have, without question, the most complete portfolio of vendor alignments in the Australian market."
Ingram inherited an Enterprise Technology Solutions (ETS) division, headed by Stuart Ellis since its creation in August 2003, when it merged with Tech Pacific. However, this currently represented just 5 per cent of total revenues. ETS will now be pulled into the Solutions Division, along with the distributor's Software Licensing Group, which is led by Angela Logan-Bell.
Other areas of the Ingram business including server, storage and network configuration as well as its quotation support team will also be realigned under the Solutions Division.
Together, the new division is expected to generate annual sales of $500 million.
