Custom Tech hunt for partners with email server kit

Custom Technology, the sole Australian distributor for Linux enterprise email provider, Scalix, is on the hunt for channel partners to stock the Scalix Appliance Kit, a reseller-focused email and collaboration suite.

The kit was launched last week at the Sydney LinuxWorld Conference, one week ahead of the rest of the world. It is available only through Scalix distributors.

It consists of the preconfigured Scalix Email and Calendaring Server, anti-spam and anti-virus software, all layered on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. The kit is aimed at enterprise users and customers who lack extensive knowledge of Linux systems.

"It's the first Scalix product specifically aimed at resellers," Custom Technology managing director, Gordon Hubbard, said. "The kit deploys the system as a whole for the customer, so all the plumbing is taken care of for the reseller."

Although the kit is well suited to resellers looking for an easy to deploy Linux email server, Hubbard said Custom Technology was looking for value-added resellers and system integrators familiar with Linux to provide full hardware/software systems.

"Linux is growing and becoming popular all the time, but that doesn't mean we just want box movers," he said. "We are looking for partners who have expertise with Linux system and enterprise applications and can support the whole solution."

Resellers could combine the kit with any Intel compatible, Linux friendly server to create an email server with rich email client support and security, Hubbard said.

The kit supports up to 50 users but additional expansions of 25 users can be purchased as well.

The featured Scalix Email, Calendaring and Collaboration software was the Sydney LinuxWorld runner up for the Best of Show: Total Industry Solution.

Pricing for the 50-user Scalix Appliance Kit starts at $1472 excluding GST and Red Hat software license.
