Meier Business Systems (MBS) has recruited five new staff to focus on its IBM product division.
Sales and marketing manager, Brian Egan, said the recruitment drive corresponded with Big Blue's decision to introduce specialised distribution.
MBS has brought on pre- and post-sales staff, maintenance programmers and a channel developer. Four staff will be based in Sydney and one in Melbourne.
"A lot of distributors will just sell products and move on, whereas we try to provide pre- and post-sales support for our resellers," he said.
The company was recently appointed as a niche distributor of IBM's Informix range. It also carries the vendor's UniData and Universal products.
"We specialise in the UniData and Universal arena but IBM asked us to look at the Informix product set as well," Egan said. "This was just a natural extension of what we were already doing."
With the new range of IBM products, MBS would be targeting software developers and companies with niche applications for particular market segments such as the local government.
