NetComm plugs away with new network accessory

Communications supplier and designer, NetComm, has released a new Ethernet-over-power adaptor called the HomePlug.

The device allows users to network computers and peripheral devices over standard electrical circuits in the home or office.

Although NetComm does not have exclusive rights to the distribution of the HomePlug in Australia, the technology has been developed by its engineers as an integral part of its product range, NetComm's marketing manager, Michael Fitzgibbon, said.

"This first version of the HomePlug can achieve speeds up to 14Mbps," Fitzgibbon said. "This makes it an ideal addition for homes or small offices that share broadband internet connections or wish to enhance their wireless range."

He said that the HomePlug would give resellers a viable avenue to target customers who cannot afford the expense or the complexity to run dedicated network cabling.

The HomePlug accessory will fit in with NetComm's networking range of products, working in conjunction with the ADSL modems and Wireless routers Netcomm has on offer.

"Future versions of the Homeplug will be enhanced to accommodate the high speed demands of business users," Fitzgibbon said.

HomePlug is available now and can be ordered through NetComm's distributors at a recommended retail price of $199.
