Patni plans local services expansion

Indian outsourcer, Patni, has appointed Rick Eager to the newly created role of general manager for its A/NZ operations. He has been charged with expanding its local business through a combination of new strategic alliances, acquisitions and organic growth.

Eager joined Patni from DMR-Fujitsu, where he was the general manager of its Eastern region. He has also held positions at CSC, Continuum and Computations during the past 15 years.

With offices in Sydney and Melbourne, Eager said his immediate focus was to build the brand from its modest position locally. Acquiring mid-level consulting and application providers with blue chip customer lists would be a key strategy, he said, although growth would also come from emerging markets.

"We are particularly excited about our infrastructure management and outsourced testing capabilities, which are delivering significant growth in more established offshoring markets like the US," Eager said.

Patni's Mumbai operations ran these services, he said.

Local Patni revenues come mainly from its Siebel CRM implementations in manufacturing along with ERP solutions using SAP and JD Edwards. Other major industry sectors included insurance.

About 30 per cent of global revenues come from its relationship with General Electric, Eager said.

Other local customers include British American Tobacco Australia, Electrolux and Peace Software.

The trend towards outsourcing was especially evident within second tier integration projects valued at $50,000 and upwards, Eager said.
