NEC Business Solutions (NECBS) has won a three-year contract with the Victorian Government to migrate the state’s existing communications network to an IP-enabled network.
The contract, which is with the Victorian Office Telephony Service (VOTS), is expected to reduce the government’s annual communications expenditure by more than $1 million per annum.
As part of the contract, NECBS will provide infrastructure and support services.
The state’s current communications system, which is based on a traditional telephony network, will be gradually migrated to an IP-enabled solution over coming months. NEC IP handsets will also be supplied to 41 major government sites across Melbourne.
NECBS has been a supplier of communications infrastructure and equipment to the Victorian government for the past 18 years.
“We are delighted to again have the opportunity to strengthen an excellent, long-term relationship with the Victorian Government by delivering on this exciting and challenging communications initiative,” NECBS vice-president, David Haynes, said.
It was this familiarity with the existing system combined with a capacity to build on existing NEC infrastructure that was an major factor in winning the contract, he said.
“The result is a major communication transition that will occur without disruption to the business of government or to customer service,” Haynes said.
