Zoom Telephonics, a US-based manufacturer of communications equipment, has established an Australian daughter company, Zoom Telephonics Australia, to distribute and support its products.
Based in Queensland, the new company will provide distribution and support mechanisms to the regions of Australia, New Zealand and lower south-east Asia.
Director of marketing and sales Andrew Gibson says the new company was established to "expand the presence of Zoom Telephonics within the region" and to ensure the company's products "are properly supported".
The company currently distributes a range of hardware- and software-based solutions for users of the Internet, intranets and corporate networks. The product range includes Zoom Rockwell-based fax modems, desktop video cameras and PC Card devices.
Zoom has a large retail presence in the US, said Gibson. "Zoom's up there with Hayes and Banksia," he said. "We're in 13 out of 15 retail stores in the US, and we're keen to mirror that here." Gibson told ARN that the company is dedicated to bringing international products to the local markets with ease - they're able to supply VARs and manufacturers with overseas approved products for integration, with a minimum waiting time.
He said the company is committed to support and training in the channel. "We have a special 1300 support number for both resellers and end users. We're serious about support and we're serious about backing up the reseller."
To this end, Zoom Telephonics Australia has a cross-over warranty scheme to ensure express replacement of failed units. "Zoom in the US are well known for their support," said Gibson, adding that the company is keen to mirror this in its Australasian operation.
"We're here for the long stay," Gibson said. "We know we'll be around because of the strength of the company we have backing us."
